Having originally been released in 1976, and recently reissued (in a slightly different design) as part of Junya Watanbe’s Comme des Garcons collection, the Sting is an absolute classic runner from Nike. This long awaited reissue has been subjected to Nike’s unique vintage treatment with a yellowed sole and distressed fabric. The upper is made up of nylon and suede and comes in a choice of two colorways: orange, white, and green or red, sail and gold. The shoe also features an old school printed “NIKE” on the heel.

The Nike Sting will be available July 11th, 2009 at Atmos Tokyo.

Today, Wilson is primarily known as a tennis brand. Year of recent tennis champions, from Sampras to Federer, help solidify this image. However, behind these Wimbledon champions lies a decades old tradition in American sportswear. Baseball and football, the classic styles of the 1920s and 1930s, the era of athletics before the glitz and the glamor of major corporate sponsorship.

The 1914 Vintage Collection captures Wilson’s heritage for the Japanese market. Perfectly detailed, down to the labels, the collection brings some iconic pieces of sportswear back to life. The award jacket will be familiar, it is after all a version of a letterman jacket. On the whole, the range reminds just how important these garments are to contemporary casual clothing.

Two of the most interesting Nike Sportswear footwear releases this season in our mind, are about to drop – the Nike Air Magma Vintage and the Nike Air Lava Dome Vintage. Both coming out of the Nike ACG range, Nike has given them a worthy upgrade for their Sportswear collection.

The Air Magma hiking boot comes in a nice dark brown suede colorway with red accents. The Air Lava Dome comes in a frey/beige/orange colorway. Both come with nice details and that overall vintage look.

Both the Nike Air Magma Vintage and the Nike Air Lava Dome Vintage will be released at Mita Sneakers on October 4th.

On September 5th 2008 Edwin Europe celebrated the launchof the exclusive Japanese Vintage Line into Europe. The Japanese Vintage line is limited to a 150 pieces per style in each country and is only available at selected Edwin retailers across Europe now.  The Japanese Vintage line represents the pinnacle of denim engineereing, washing, cuts and love for denim and is available for men and women. To celebrate the launchof the Japanese Vintage Line, Edwin Europe invited Japanese Rock Band, The Dirtrucks, to Paris to perform at the exclusive venue, Le Temple, for a selected group of guests, journalists and fans.

UNIV’s latest collection utilizes salvaged materials and the construction savvy of old-timers. The first in the "re-Vintage" set is the rambler. A quality, heavy duty canvas tote bag. Good for books. Good for setting sail, either figuratively or literally. An example of yet another move in the right direction for reusing fabric and preserving know how. Now out at the UNIV concept shop at Robust Flavor.

In the coming weeks we see yet another reissue of these Nike 80’s classics, the Terminator. It will be coming in a vintage low version in the near future in a grey/navy and navy/red colorway. Look out for Hanon to receive them very soon.

At Bright Adidas shows their answer to the recent re-emergence of vintage runners. The Adidas SL72 comes as part of their Spring 2009 offering in a variety of colorways, featuring a wash treatment on the premium leathers, giving them an aged look.

Digging into the archives, Adidas delivers a precise reproduction of the Gazelle. Here the color way is yellow and black. Striking, and well matched to the simple interplay between the three stripes, lace holes and the upper. The white sole lifts the entire set up, allowing the shoes silhouette to really speak. Well done.

Nike has had major success with their vintage series, which started with the running shoes and this year was then also introduced with the Dunk and the Terminator High. As part of their Fall ‘08 collection they introduce two new Terminator High Vintage. The sneaker comes in a white/green colorway with large green laces and in a navy/yellow colorway with pink laces. As with all vintage sneakers from the range, these also come with that used look.
