A History of Stussy x G-Shock Collaboration Watches

A History of Stussy x G-Shock Collaboration Watches

Stussy has been working with G-Shock for a while now, releasing new collaborative timepieces every couple of years. Today we take a look back at the watches that the two have cooked up over the years, starting in 1997 with a the DW-6900 SS Ltd Edt Original. Two more DW-6900 watches followed in 2005 and 2010, while they released a DW-5300 for their 25th anniversary in 2008.

All this leads up to the most recent collaboration between Stussy and G-Shock on the Jason watch – in our opinion the least interesting.

Check out all of the watches from the last 15 years after the jump.

Panerai PAM 441 Ceramic

Panerai PAM 441 Ceramic Watch

In recent years we have not paid too close attention to Panerai. After its rise in the early 2000s we just got a little fed up of the brand and felt like it was all over the place. Nevertheless every once in a while they still do come out with a beautiful watch, which is the case with the PAM 441 Ceramic.

The watch comes with a 44mm black ceramic case, a manual-wind mechanical Panerai P.9001 calibre and is officially called ‘Panerai (PAM 441) Luminor 1950 3 Days GMT Automatic Ceramica. The black, almost gunmetal color, of the case looks beautiful and goes well with the vintage looking brown leather strap.

Richard Mille Tourbillon RM 052 ‘Skull’

Richard Mille Tourbillon RM 052 'Skull' Watch

We have always been big fans of Richard Mille. The bridging of technology and high end watch making come together rather often, but unfortunately he goes wrong very often too. One of the few that delivers on that end on a consistent basis is Richard Mille. Some of you might remember the entirely sapphire encased watch by the brand that we recently showcased.

Here we preview now the upcoming Tourbillion RM 052 Skull, once again showcasing the incredible skills of the brand, taking it that one step further than everybody else. A skull on a watch can be the most cheesy thing when done wrong or just slapped onto the dial – well, see how it can be done right here.

“Where others may have been content to exploit the purely visual aspect of the skull, Richard Mille has taken the concept further by integrating it directly into the complete timepiece.

The baseplate and bridges take the form of a grade 5 titanium skull. Richard Mille has pushed the concept further by integrating this into the movement. The upper and lower jaws hold the ruby of the tourbillon cage. The back of the skull is actually the movement’s center bridge. The skeletonized baseplate and bridges were subjected to rigorous testing to insure their optimal strength. The entire movement is connected to the case by 4 bridges that are inspired by the crossed bones from flags on pirate ships. The new case design, with its opened flanks, continues this visual allegory to the human skeleton.

The watch will come limited to only 21 pieces – 15 in titanium and 6 in red or white gold.

Omega Seamaster Limited Edition James Bond 50th Anniversary Watch

2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the James Bond film series. No other watch company can be connected to the iconic British spy than Omega and as such, it totally makes sense that they dedicate a limited edition version of their Seamaster watch to James Bond.

“The watch is in the Seamaster series, uses a “007″ theme on the black lacquer dial with “50″ filled in with red on the outer bezel, and uses Omega’s caliber 2507 co-axial movement. The winding rotor looks like a bullet and is inscribed with “50 years of James Bond.” The Omega Seamaster Limited Edition James Bond 50th Anniversary watch is sized at 41mm and will be available some time early this year.”

The watch will come in an edition of 11′007 pieces.

TAG Heuer Mikrogirder 2000

 TAG Heuer Mikrogirder 2000

TAG Heuer outdo themselves with this Mikrogirder regulator system.

Conceived, developed and manufactured in-house in the company’s R&D lab in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, the MIKROGIRDER is the fastest mechanical regulator ever crafted and tested.  Accurate to an unprecedented 5/10,000 or 1/2,000th of a second, the MIKROGIRDER is a completely new regulator system — a coupling beam/girder and excitatory beam/girder system working with a linear oscillator (versus a spiral shape in a classical hairspring) that vibrates isochronously at a very small angle, as opposed to a traditional watch, which vibrates at an angle of up to 320 degrees.

Once again Richard Mille raises the bar when it comes to innovation and presents his new RM056. Of course that has its price – the Richard Mille RM056 goes for 1.65 Million USD. Only 5 of these will be made.
