Japanese architecture firm Wonderwall recently remodeled the A.P.C. Katayama flagship store. For the occasion the two also got together with a collaborative t-shirt, which has now been released at the honeyee.store.

Not only Bape, Colette and Uniqlo have been working with Japanese architect firm Wonderwall on their store build-outs, but also A.P.C. worked with them now for the second time and they have recently completed the Kita-Aoyama store, which we can give you a detailed look at here.

“ The concept behind this second project with A.P.C. located in Kita-Aoyama is a bungalow style house. The terrace-like entrance and façade breaks the conventional formula of retail store spaces where the focus is about the presenter and the viewer. The store is designed to encourage the interaction between the “A.P.C” brand and the “guests”. A calm and soothing environment give the impression of a familiar place that may have already existed for years. This was created by the choices of materials and how they were incorporated in their use.”

A great turn-out and actually for Wonderwall a bit of a change, as their usual interiors are more modern and much colder. The contrary is true here – a warm and relaxed atmosphere.

Yesterday we announced the Original Fake x Wonderall t-shirt already, celebrating the release of the latest book on the work of Wonderwall architects by Frame: Wonderwall Masamichi Katayama Projects N°2.

The t-shirt will be available at Colette and is now already available in the Wonderwall online store for the Japanese market. The Loopwheeler t-shirts are also available, so only the Bape collaboration is still coming.

The t-shirt features a Kaws character on the front, Wonderwall and Original Fake logos on the back, and the Kaws cross eyes embroidery on the sleeve.

Wonderwall, Masamichi Katayama’s architecture studio, releases a second opus presenting its work, published by Frame: Wonderwall Masamichi Katayama Projects N°2. Throughout all 256 pages, you can have a look at Wonderwall’s most recent projects. To celebrate this publication, three close Wonderwall partners designed a limited edition t-shirt, exclusively available at colette: OriginalFake, Bathing Ape® and Loopwheeler by Groovisions.

Here we give you a look at the book, as well as the graphics of all three limited edition t-shirts by Bape, Original Fake and Loopwheeler, that will soon be available.

Wonderwall and Groovisions got together with Loopwheeler Japan, known for their quality jersey and t-shirt bodies to produce a limited edition t-shirt. It is interesting seeing this kind of collaboration, as Wonderwall being architects and Groovisions being a design firm, both do not come from the fashion world. Something that you only come across in Japan.

Issue 62 of Frame Magazine features an in depth look at the relationship between BAPE and design firm Wonderwall. For over a decade the two have worked to produce staggering retail interiors that have intrigued customers and set standards for others. The issue also investigates other spaces where art and interiors meld in nontraditional places… like bars.

A.P.C. recenty renovated their Daikanyama Homme store in Japan and to do so they worked with famed Japanese architects from Wonderwall. Wonderwall has worked on many high profile projects, from most Bape stores around the globe to the recent Uniqo Flagship Store in NYC and many others.
Once again the architect perfectly translated the brands feel and image into the store. The mix of glass, concrete and warm woods, along with the contrasting industrial steel tubes turned out to be a great space.
Other A.P.C. stores around the globe have a different feel though. The NYC, Paris and Berlin flagship stores all have used wooden floors, antique wood applications, overall straight lines. The new Daikanyama store certainly seems more modern than the rest of them. Let’s see if we will see that also in future stores.
