adidas for Yohji Yamamoto Fall/Winter 2011 Footwear Collection

Yohji Yamamoto and adidas celebrate 10 years of collaboration with a limited edition ‘adidas for Yohji Yamamoto’ collection including footwear and apparel pieces for men and women. Today we preview the entire sneaker range from the collaboration.

The footwear range focuses on red, black and white color combinations in classic styles, such as the Yohji Pacer, Smith and Star as well as more technical hi tops, including the Campus Wrestling, X Bounce and GSGX. Existing classics from the adidas archive get completely revamped and redesigned. The rather radical sneaker collection is an interesting path for adidas and we like seeing them innovate.

The collection will be available in limited quantities at Y-3 stores around the globe, starting July 2011.

Check out each sneaker in detail after the jump.

Y-3 Fall/Winter 2010 Collection

Y-3 Fall/Winter 2010 Collection

Y-3 is on the run from the gloom and doom of the world. Armed with tongue-in-cheek humor, splashes of bright color, and intriguing aesthetic contrasts, the label’s Autumn/Winter 2010-11 collection brought a healthy dose of fun back to the runway. Presented on Sunday, February 14th, as part of New York fashion week, the show sought an escapist route to the future of sport style.

Y-3 has always melded technology with tradition, and never has that been more apparent. For Autumn, the label known for sport elegance took inspiration from bespoke English tailoring, reinterpreting classic shapes in futuristic materials, or alternately, classic materials in futuristic shapes. The result was a kinetic and thoroughly modern take on sportswear. The collection, presented for the second season at the Park Avenue Armory, also captured a playful mood with an industrial laser light show by the British art collective UVA.

This season, Yohji Yamamoto injected Y-3 with as much humor as style, presenting an ode to masked superheroes like Zorro and the Scarlet Pimpernel. Wearing voluminous, layered sportswear in vibrant colorways, the models stalked the runway to the folk tunes of Simon & Garfunkel.

The collection also found inspiration in traditional military garb and deconstructed it in modern ways. Classic A-1 flight jackets unravelled into long sweeping capes, for instance. Elsewhere, cashmere tracksuits combined utility with luxury, sweater jackets explored modularity with removeable shawls and scarves, and oversized jumpsuits emphasized the free-spirited mood. Wool sweaters and cardigans were embroidered with kitten patches and slogans like “I’m thinking prison break” and “World is not fair,” underscoring a humor and insouciance that was signature Yamamoto.

Yohji Yamamoto for Hermès - The Yohji Bag

A first hint at this exciting collaboration was giving during the Autumn/Winter 2008 fashion shows in Paris. Finally the Yohji Bag, designed by Yohji Yamamoto for Hermès, is coming out in 2010. The bag is made of Barenia leather, the signature material of the French leather manufacturer, and will be available soon in three sizes. Yamamoto certainly inhaled a bit of contemporary design into the otherwise very classic brand.

dr martens yohji yamamoto fw09 front Yohji Yamamoto For Dr. Martens Fall/Winter 2009 Preview

We take an early look at the Yohji Yamamoto for Dr. Martens Fall/Winter 2009 boot line-up. The Japanese designer has already worked several seasons with the English shoe manufacturer and in most cases the outcome was pretty crazy.

Therefore we appreciate even more the outcome of next seasons collection. You still have the wild pattern element in the collection, but at the same time the designer also offers some more subtle styles, that are not any less interesting or new to the brand. From canvas uppers to herringbone patterns, the boots definitely get some new looks.

Take a more detailed look at the upcoming Yohji Yamamoto for Dr. Martens Fall/Winter 2009 Collection after the jump.
