This week an event called POP 2.0 took place at Sous-Soul in Bern. Mr. Arci from Yuhzimi was invited to speak at a panel discussion. Subject: "Video Killed the Radiostar". Other speakers included Dr. phil. Gerhard Lischka (very intelligent man, I didn`t understand one word he said, Mr. Arci of course did...), Andu Ryser (Filewile) and Bart Wasem (LeMob).

This is Mr.Vinz from Walldisplay who took care of the visuals. Check out his amazing graphic design here.

Liste 07 Basel

After Art 38 Basel (check the report below) we visited Liste 07 - the young art fair in Basel.
Liste always takes place during Art Basel and gives younger, less known galleries and artist the opportunity to present themselves. I have mixed feelings. The venue is much nicer, the people too but the art shown was a bit disappointing.

My personal favorites were presented by Yamamoto Gendai Gallery out of Tokyo, Japan.
The following two sculptures (Goldmund & Narziss by Sako Kojima) are actually affordable (1200 Euro & 1500 Euro). Nothing compared to the prices at Art 38 Basel.

My favorite dog, a french bulldog, was used by Mark Divo as "art prostitute". I donated to the project even though I really don`t know what will happen with that money. It will be literally thrown out of a window. We will see...
But hey Mark: Get me one of those puppies!

On our way to the excellent rooftop restaurant / bar they had...

Even in Basel everybody knows now that Mr. Arci is "dä mitem Digge"!

ART 38 Basel Opening

Yesterday the MILIEU crew went to the opening reception (vernissage) of Art 38 Basel.

The international art show features about 300 leading art galleries from 30 countries on all continents. Art Basel is the world's premier modern and contemporary art fair. 20th- and 21st-century art works by over 2'000 artists will be on display. 55'000 art collectors, art dealers, artists, curators and art lovers attend the annual meeting place of the art community.  The New York Times has called Art Basel the “Olympics of the Art World”. According to the Paris daily Le Monde, Art Basel is “la meilleure foire du monde”, and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung describes the international art show as “Die beste Kunst ist gerade gut genug“.

Official opening is today. At the vernissage you can literally smell the money. Allegedly 1 billion Swiss Francs of business volume is made in 5 days. If you have a chance to go I strongly recommend it.

We only saw about a quarter. Here are the highlights of our trip.

In the entrance hall Mr. Marshal had a little bit of smalltalk...

Mr. Arci

They bought something! We didn`t...

Mr. Remy from MILIEU. His mother Francesca Pia is at Art 38 Basel. Booth A8 / Hall 2.1. Check it out!

I wonder what exactly you buy when you decide to get this piece... Does the pingpong man come with it?

Does that make you craaaaaazyyyyy?

Mr. Murakami at Deitch. Deitch had an amazing booth.

IRAK crew in the house!

Keith Haring at Deitch

Mr. Barry McGee at Deitch

Ryan McGinness at Deitch, where else?

Mr.Warhol at Deitch

Mr. Basquiat at Deitch

A rich view...

"Streetart" made it`s way to Art 38 Basel.

I liked this very much. Don`t remember the name of the artist but the gallery was Stuart Shave / Modern Art (London) I believe.

I almost bought this skeleton. Unfortunately it was already sold. ;-)

Chinese art is huge at the moment...
