Ermenegildo Zegna founded a small woolen mill in Trivero, Italy. The company, Lanificio Zegna, started producing fabrics on four looms.

1930s

Zegna expanded its reach, becoming one of the largest buyers of Australian wool. By the end of the 1930s, the company employed around 1,000 people.

1938

The brand began exporting fabrics to America.

1945

Zegna fabrics were being sold in over 40 countries.

1960s

Ermenegildo's sons, Angelo and Aldo Zegna, began taking over the management of the company. They expanded the company to produce ready-to-wear collections and made-to-measure clothing.

1968

A new factory was opened in Novara, Italy, specializing in pants and sleeves.

1990s

The company, now managed by the new generation of the Zegna family, expanded its range to include a variety of products from apparel to accessories.

2002

Zegna acquired the Longhi brand and established a joint venture with the Salvatore Ferragamo Group for footwear and leather goods.

2003

The brand launched its first fragrance. Three more followed subsequently.

2004

Sunglasses and eyewear were added to Zegna's product portfolio.

2008

The Ermenegildo Zegna and Z Zegna lines were introduced at Milan Fashion Week.

2012

Zegna celebrated its 102nd anniversary. By this time, the brand had firmly established itself in the global luxury fashion market, known for its exquisite tailoring and high-quality fabrics.

2016

Since June, the artistic director of Zegna has been Alessandro Sartori, who is entrusted with the creative functions of all Zegna brands and lines.
