Remember Alexis Sablone's scrumptiously scaly Nike SB Dunks? Well, they're heading to the Olympics. Don't worry. They're getting a wider release, too.
Nike SB has chosen the famous skateboarder Alexis Sablone to design the 2024 Olympic skateboarding federation kits for the United States and Japan. This is another strong move by Nike, following their successful collaboration with Parra for the 2020 skate uniforms. For 2024, they've turned to Sablone, an icon in the skateboarding world.
An Olympian, known for designing great skate shoes, making Olympic skate gear? I can't carry out a kickflip if I tried, but even I say, "sign me up."
Since I've mentioned Sablone' skate shoes, it's probably a good time to confirm that Sablone's own Nike SB Dunk Lows and signature Converse CONS AS-1 Pro sneakers will join the Olympic skate collection (more on the other stuff later).
Back in April, Sablone teased her forthcoming sneakers side by side on Instagram, thus unveiling her first-ever Nike SB Dunk Low collaboration.
Sablone's first take at Dunks is quite stunning, incorporating very realistic reptilian textures and cool color-changing details inspired by chameleons.
In Nike's flicks, we get better looks at the Dunk's details, which are just as good as they were in Sablone's initial teaser. The Nike SB Dunk's plush setup gets painted in pleasing earthy hues, while Sablone signs her autograph on the heel in the form of bumpy initials. For my personal favorite part, the Swoosh is slightly reimagined to mirror a chameleon's curving tongue, as noted by Nike.
Now, for the moment you've been reading for: Sablone's Converse sneakers and Nike SB Dunk Low sneakers are scheduled to land as a twin pack on August 22, followed by a Nike SNKRS app launch on August 29.
Also part of the skate federation kits, Sablone will also be whipping up some clothes, including a bowler shirt, chore coat, and relaxed denim trousers. The skate pieces marry Sablone's design and skate expertise with the countries' cultural essences for some pretty fire wears, which drop in July before the big Summer Games in Paris.
