One more (slightly) esoteric food ways history for the year. Crunch! traces the potato chip from 19th century kitchens to corporate structure. The books author is Dirk Burhans, a trained biologist who also seems to know a good bit about soda pop. Included within the pages of Crunch! is an additional collection of potato chip ephemera — perhaps the most exciting prospect. While a book on tortilla chips (the wonderful base of a wonderful dish, nachos) would have been more useful, Crunch! nicely complements the books about bagels and donuts already covered here in 2008.

Crunch! is published by University of Wisconsin Press. Available from Amazon.
