From Sidewalks to Rooftops opened last month at Colonial Williamsburg’s newly expanded Abby Aldridge Rockefeller Folk Art Museum. The exhibition explores shop signs, weathervanes and figure heads as modes of personal expression and stimulus to trade. Frankly, there’s not much better than a good collection of folk art signage. Full of personality and connected stories, these objects are great reflections of American cultural heritage. The Bee published a full review today, so if the above has peaked your interest check it out.

The exhibition is on view until 2013.

Head to the jump for another example of what’s on view… explicitly a double sided sign by William Rice.
