Tomorrow, the Art Institute of Chicago opens a new retrospective of Norwegian painter Edvard Munch. Becoming Edvard Munch includes roughly 80 pieces by the artist, as well as a good number of works by his contemporaries. With this the context for his work, his life and the man himself is thoughtfully built out. Roberta Smith reviews the show in today’s NYT.

Becoming Edvard Munch runs until April 26, 2009 at the Art Institute of Chicago, 111 South Michigan Avenue. Above is “Kiss by the Window” (1892).
