Opening on September 12, 2009, Fine Lines is the first in a new series of exhibitions at Berlin’s Skalitzers Gallery exploring the roll of the tag in contemporary art.

The tag, also referred to as handstyle, urban calligraphy or ‘writing’, is a personal statement or signature: an expression of identity. The work of many artists starts and ends with the tag. For some the tag represents the basis from which they developed their style into less abstract art forms. For many of these artists tagging is a relevant part of their work, others’ entire message is contained within their tag.

New York City’s Cope 2 is the first subject of the series. He’s been writing since 1978 and this will be his first solo showing Europe.

Skalitzers Str 43, Berlin- Kreuzberg.
