Though a little biased (I went through the Winterthur Program in Early American Culture), Winterthur Museum is my all-time favorite place. The house museum contains an unparalleled collection of decorative arts, collected by Henry Francis du Pont, and the gardens are absolutely magnificent. The galleries continually put out top notch exhibitions highlighting American furniture, ceramics, paintings, and metal work. And, the “Enchanted Woods” is the single best place to take a curious kid on the Eastern Seaboard.

Need further reason to visit? The Yuletide installation has been extended through January 10, 2010, adding splended touch to the already amazing period rooms.

Above is a picture of the gardens in full glory.
