In 1974, Rick Telander spent the summer capturing the spirit of Brooklyn’s Foster Park. The resulting images formed Heaven is a Playground, a book which documented the early days of street basketball. Greats like Connie Hawkins and Bernard King appear, as do many lesser known others.

35 years after the publication of Heaven is a Playground, Converse is celebrating Telander’s landmark book with an exhibition at New York’s Converse Energy Space. Complementing the photographs, Converse has also pulled from its archives and is presenting some rarities.

Located at 132 Orchard, the gallery is open through January 31, 2010 from noon to 4pm.
