Walker Art Center reminds that all art was once contemporary in the current installation Benches and Binoculars. The galleries are crowded with masterpieces and oddities from the Walker’s collection, indicative of both past artistic trend and the institutions own history. By utilizing a salon style hanging (as seen above in the installation view), the Walker makes a nod to founder T.B. Walker and creates an unusual narrative for the selected material. As such, its a rather fun way of rediscovering the likes of Max Beckmann, Chuck Close, and Marsden Hartley. (via Curated).

The exhibition remains on view through November 21, 2010.
