Where the runway meets the street

We pulled in the latest member of the team to work over some selections from the John Varvatos Spring/Summer 2010 offering. Pete Williams, our resident Canadian, skater, snowboarder, designer, and all around great guy, spends most of his time on the HS side of our business but as we know, those borders tend to mix more than any of us would have assumed just a couple of years ago.

If you run into Pete at a tradeshow, you may mistake him for the younger brother of one of Complex Mag’s editors. He may or may not mind that.

In the meantime, Pete has selected some very crossover appropriate pieces – the John Varvatos Murray Duffle and the John Varvatos Canvas Star Player Oxford Sneakers. We’ll let Pete tell you all about them.

John Varvatos Canvas Star Player Oxford Sneakers

Bar the lace-less Chucks (even the most casual of gentlemen know laces are a must,) John Varvatos new Converse selection takes a decidedly more classic approach than many of their collaborative offerings from seasons’ past (think abundant eyelets, studs, etc.) This is good. Of the three Star Player Oxford options – maroon canvas, black leather and white canvas – the last is number one in my books. The green leather accents work well against the lightly waxed upper, and while I’m usually not a big fan of contrast stitching, here I’ll let it slide. A great casual option for Spring.

John Varvatos Murray Duffle

Finding Nick and Jason had already spoken on my second and third favorites (the Chukkas and Hooded Jacket respectively), this duffle bag gets shine here. Available in canvas or goat skin options, each with “crinkle finish”, the bag caught my eye with strong yet subtle contrasts in material, color and texture. The construction looks to be top-notch as well. To paraphrase Lil Weezy in a certain Playaz Circle track, “go and get your money little duffle bag boy.” Calf skin trimming doesn’t come cheap.
