I can be quite down on street art, but French photographer JR’s “Women Are Heroes” is both powerful and needed. The film, which has been selected for the 63rd Cannes Film Festival, documents his travels photographing impoverished and victimized women. They are the basis for his large scale outdoor installations, and more importantly strive to empower the subjects – the photographic pastes located in the very neighborhood of the pictured woman.

Above is the trailer for the film. (via Arrested Motion).
