Based in Philadelphia, Janice Smith began her furniture making career under the tutilage of Alphonse Mattia. Her work is practical, but follows a distinctly sculptural path. Pieces like the “Whimcycle” Chair (above) are representative of Smith’s playful urges, while her dinning set relies on deep triangles and steep curves accentuating the natural beauty of the wood.

In addition to maintaining her studio, Smith teaches at Drexel University and Moore College of Art.

Further examples of Smith’s furniture follow.
