Fireland, the US debut of British artist Ian Francis, opened last night at New York’s Joshua Liner Gallery. The exhibition includes new drawings and paintings by Francis, who uses a range of techniques including acrylic, oil, charcoal, ink and graphite. The result are raw and active canvas, the abstractions almost obscuring rich narratives which require intense looking from the viewer.

Francis’ work will remain on view through April 2, 2011.
