It’s unusual for you to be able to walk up to a David LaChapelle painting at a gallery for free, but Lever House is exhibiting the controversial artist’s work in an exhibit titled “From Darkness to Light” through September 30. The exhibit, despite its position in a corporate setting, does not compromise its provocativeness, a signature of David LaChapelle, though the pieces require a closer look because of the beautiful colors and shapes they employ, which trick the eye from afar into thinking they are simply beautiful installations that stop at form.
Lever House is a corporate building in Manhattan which has been housing art exhibits from both prominent and upcoming artists since 2003. Entrance is free.
