We stopped in at the opening reception for Malick Sidibe’s photography exhibition at the agnes b. galerie in SOHO, New York City. The exhibition showcases a selection of Sidibé’s street and nightlife images from Bamako, Mali, during the 1960’s and 1970’s as well as his rare collection of vintage prints. Mr. Sidibé was one of the few photographers documenting the period before Mali’s independence from France in 1960.

Sidibé’s new book, The Portrait of Mali collecting his photography from the period is out now on the Rizzoli imprint. Amazon has it.
