Scenes from Crystal Hall at CIFF in Copenhagen Fall 2013 4

We visited the beautiful city of Copenhagen, Denmark last week to experience their fashion week as well as the beautiful, modern architecture that seems to trickle into all aspect’s of the city’s design. Our hosts in the city, the Copenhagen International Fashion Fair (CIFF) – celebrating their 20th anniversary this year – gave us a glimpse of their new branding and directional change, which will certainly peak the interest of those buyers and brands looking to showcase their goods to greater Scandinavia. Crystal Hall at CIFF introduces the fair’s new concept.

Placed prominently at the entrance of CIFF is Crystal Hall – an open exhibition showcasing a select, yet strong, collection of menswear and accessories from names familiar to Selectism readers.  Alongside new luxury lines that look to modernize the men’s category, various forward thinking and emerging designers were included in Crystal Hall’s open floor – as curated by Arnaud Vanraet and Pierre Tzenkoff with CIFF fashion and design director, Kristian W. Andersen.

Mixing in emerging Scandinavian designers with those from other parts of Europe, CIFF’s Crystal Hall may well be a look into the future of the Copenhagen fair.

While we have highlighted a number of brands on Selectism over the years – MISMO, AMI, Carven, Les Ateliers Ruby, and Damir Doma come to mind – we will over the next weeks bring looks emerging brands sure to make their presence known to the men’s market (we started it off yesterday with leContrie).

Crystall Hall at CIFF also hosted the great Kibisi design firm, The Coffee Collective, and local multi-brand retailer, Storm Fashion (who may well make our favorite sweatpants of the moment under the OKAY name).

Copenhagen and the fairs around their fashion week offer a viewpoint into Scandinavian design as it plays across fashion, graphic arts, furniture, and industrial design. Those looking for an alternative to the men’s markets of New York, Paris, London, and Milan, will very much enjoy the city of Copenhagen and all that it offers. It is a special place.
