Where form meets function

When creative agency FICTION were approached by CASIS, the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space, to commission the design of the mission patch for their inaugural flight, they stepped outside of their agency and approached one of the most prolific artists of our generation, Shepard Fairey. Responsible for OBEY giant and Studio Number One, Fairey designed the Obama Hope poster, which helped define Obama’s campaign. Taking a slight departure from his usual artistic style, Fairey broadens his scope of inspiration to include references to that of historical space badge aesthetics. The space expedition is scheduled to run from September 2013 to March 2014. Find out more of Shepard Fairey’s thoughts on the design in the video below.
