Where the runway meets the street

With news of the collaboration between M.I.A. and Versace first reaching our ears last November, we’ve been waiting in anticipation ever since to find out more. At the recent Spring/Summer 2014 Balenciaga show, M.I.A. let slip that the project in question is being released in two weeks’ time. There’s little known about the collaboration, but it’s believed to be for the brand’s second line, Versus, which previously invited designer J.W. Anderson to create his interpretation of the brand.

[UPDATE] WWD has confirmed the September 26 announcement. For the collaboration, M.I.A. created 19 pieces inspired by counterfeit Versace items found in London markets. Several versions of the Italian brand’s iconic designs, like its Medusa head or Greek frieze, are combined with “graphic prints with street energy.” The collaboration includes clothing for both men and women from T-shirts and printed jeans to silk skirts, jersey dresses and jackets and outerwear inspired by the military world.
