Volvo is going through a bit of a revival today. With an $11 billion investment to help push their innovation and production into the future, the Swedish automaker is looking to get back to the business of developing the very best and most reliable cars on the road. While the last few years have seen the automaker baseline, things are certainly different in 2014 and 2015. Driving the all-new 2015 Volvo V60 wagon helped express this in a very direct way.

Volvo best describes their 2015 V60 station wagon as an “all work and all play” vehicle that performs well on the open road while handling the load of a family road trip. At its T5 base, the Volvo V60 features a 240 horsepower four-cylinder turbocharged engine (a T6 AWD version is also available with 325-horsepower) and good gas mileage that makes it one of the strongest wagon contenders on the American market. With Volvo’s move from eight engines to a two-engine Drive-E platform that outputs V8 power through smaller intelligent engines, the automaker continues to optimize for the future with better fuel efficiency, reduced engine weight and emissions output (the 2015 Volvo T5 V60 runs on a 2.0-liter Drive-E engine, though the T6 AWD version will remain on the older engine platform).

On the open desert road outside of Las Vegas, Nevada, we opened up the car looking for the performance and response expected from Volvos, and we certainly found it. As fans of wagons in general, the V60 was a ton of fun to drive and control. A certain amount of praise should be given to the comfort of the Volvo seats; there are still only few automakers who come close to the supple ride that Volvos provide.

There are many reasons to consider Volvo’s V60 wagon over others on the market. 2014 and 2015 will bring big changes to Volvo who is going back to doing what Volvo does best: developing superior automobiles that are “all work and all play.”
