Where form meets function

Anyone who was sketching works by great Renaissance masters at the age of 10 doubtlessly has some talent, which makes it all the more surprising that it’s taken this long for 25-year-old Miami artist Jason Seife to launch his first solo exhibition. Perhaps even more surprising is that it’s happening in the northeastern UK city of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (home of the Brown Ale).

Seife’s work has received much celebrity acclaim and he has even been commissioned by both Kanye West and Pharrell to produce cover art for them in the past. This exhibit, however, focuses on his more conceptual output. Extending his childhood obsession into the present day, Seife’s work draws on the macabre themes of the Renaissance alongside modern, sci-fi imagery, depicting various scenes of anguish and torment in traditional oils, yet with modern, bright shades and unorthodox materials.

Entitled “Palindromes,” the exhibit runs from April 4 until May 10, and you can catch it for yourself here:
