Last summer Ryan Babenzien and Jon Buscemi launched their new sneaker venture, Greats. We reported about the launch and about their collaboration with Nick Wooster. Basically the concept of the brand is to cut out the middleman, the retailer, and therefore to be able to sell their customer a high quality sneaker for a mid level price. Today the brand offers two sneakers, with a third one coming soon, with prices ranging from $59 to $99. Seasoned brand builders Babenzien and Buscemi are certainly strong people to be founding such a new venture with plenty of experience in the industry. The question still remains though, can they make an affordable sneaker brand cool? Today the brand announces that they have closed a $1.5 million round of investment, after their initial $500k seed round. Let’s hope they put it to good use and that they can make their direct to consumer model work, while building with Greats a sneaker brand of the future.
