The Brooklyn Museum of Art presents Ai Weiwei: According to What?, the prolific Chinese artist’s first large-scale exhibition in New York. This is the last and largest stop in Weiwei’s global tour and includes works not seen at previous venues. The exhibition features the controversial photo series, Dropping a Han Dynasty Urn (1995 – 2009), and is accompanied by the paint-dipped antique vases themselves. Weiwei, who’s not allowed to leave China for speaking up against the Chinese government, explores concepts like cultural identity, tradition, and politics, forcing us to question our place in such strange times. The exhibition opens April 18 and will run through August 10. Learn more here and preview it above.
