Where form meets function

On a quiet and seemingly ordinary street in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint sits Snarkitecture, a “collaborative practice” founded by architect Alex Mustonen and visual artist Daniel Arsham who work in a sphere that floats somewhere between art, product design and architecture. Snarkitecture’s work is everywhere these days: their Beats by Dre cement pillow case and New York Fashion Week runway construction for En Noir are only two recent examples of their work.

Weeks before NYCxDESIGN and all the off-fairs that surround it, we were invited to their studios for a visit. Heavily whitewashed on all fronts, the Snarkitecture studio is filled with current and future works. The space is busy with assistants working on Snarkitecture projects as well as Arsham’s personal ones (the artist also uses a portion of the building as his personal studio) as they prepare to showcase during Design Week. We captured the Snarkitecture space in the midst of all the bustle. See various objects from their shop collection and more, above.
