Where form meets function

When it comes to organizers, the compromise between design and utility occurs far too often. The Shkatulka Modular Desk from St. Petersburg-based product designer and illustrator Lesha Galkin is an answer to this conundrum. The name Shkatulka, Russian for “casket,” refers to an ancient Russian secret opening mechanism “with magical properties.” The modular organization system, made of a combination of marble and wood, has been so well received that it’s already been exhibited at Salone del Mobile 2014.

The seemingly standard wooden box unveils stacked compartments for marble coasters, corrugated organizers, pen holders and other small cases in which you can easily insert pens, paper, rulers, clips and anything else required on your desktop. Learn more here.
