As most music fans are aware, Rick Rubin helped launched historic label Def Jam out of his Greenwich Village double-occupancy dorm room at NYU nearly three decades ago. In anticipation for the 30th anniversary of the label, Rubin ventured back to his old stomping grounds at Weinstein Hall to reminisce about the label’s impact and the physical space that manifested the likes of LL Cool J, T La Rock and Jazzy Jay.
