Design
Where form meets function

Simeon Georgiev follows up his series Rick Owens Robotics with a new set of illustrations featuring some of this year’s most celebrated sneakers from bygone eras. Included among the designs are the Reebok Classic Instapump Fury – which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year – the Ewing Athletics 33 Hi, and LA Gear Lights. All three models saw a resurgence in 2014 so it’s only fair we give them the retro future treatment and pair them with the Bulgarian artist’s signature fashion robots. Each sneaker’s distinct design language is enhanced through textures and precise geometric forms resulting in a realistic depiction of sneaker design in the years to come. The colors, meanwhile, are clean and subdued complementing each robot’s color scheme. Exposed hydraulic systems remind us of the mechanics behind technological marvels while the nature of sneakers brings us back down to Earth.
