By virtue of their intended use, wallets should be functional, lightweight and the antithesis of bulky. Why then — you may ask yourself — are many wallets so ponderous in size that it feels as though you’re resting your laurels on a hardcover edition of Anna Karenina?

Leather goods and travel accessory company Octovo asked a very similar question. To follow up, the company’s designers asked themselves how they could minimize the unneeded features that add bulk to the standard wallet. In the age of consumerism and constant technological distractions, Octovo wants to bring simplicity back to style.

The attentively named Purist wallet is definitive of Octovo’s minimalist design philosophy. Each one is designed in San Francisco from Italian vegetable re-tanned leather, and features precisely what you need and not an ounce more. Inside the wallet are four credit card holders and an internal billfold for US or Canadian currency. Anthony Mazzei, the brand’s managing director, describes the Purist and the Winter 2015 men’s collection as a whole as “luxurious yet very approachable.” This is one instance where extra bells and whistles don’t carry the day.

You can shop the Purist now for $118 and sign up for Octovo’s newsletter to receive 10% off your first order
