Having recently celebrated its first birthday, Burgers & Hip Hop has become the star of Berlin’s social scene over the past year. Created by Kavita Meelu, of the city’s Street Food Thursday-fame, the event was started as a celebration of the marriage of two of the finest things in life – burgers and hip-hop music. Beginning in the late afternoon, it kicks off as a street food event with various local food vendors battling it out for the best burger in Berlin title. After everyone’s had their fill, the tables are cleared to make room for one of the most solid hip-hop parties on the circuit, running until the early hours of the morning.
With only the winner invited back against a new lineup of vendors ready to take up the challenge each time, Burgers & Hip Hop never gets old. Recently the event played host to some of the best burgers Europe has to offer, with Icelandic import Tommi’s Burger Joint new to the Berlin scene, Paris’s Le Réfectoire, Amsterdam’s Thrill Grill and Original Patty Men from Birmingham. While the event is right at home in the burger-loving city of Berlin, things are looking bigger and better for the event, which promises to pop up in a city near you in the not-too-distant future.
