“In the moment I put on the helmet and the engine starts, it’s totally up to me,” says Peter Dannenberg, a former fixture in the music industry turned vintage motorcycle restorer. In our short film with activewear brand Aether, Dannenberg rides unhurriedly along the streets of Berlin astride an old motorcycle, narrating details about his lifelong fascination with the growling and purring two-wheeled vehicles so many of us love. Although he has always taken an interest in riding, he actively began pursuing his interest six years ago when he started working with Urban Motors Berlin, a company that customizes old European bikes such as those of BMW, Ducati and Triumph from the '70s.
Dannenberg goes on to explain how he finds a sense of liberation through his work, and through riding. Joining him on his freewheeling video journey are two Aether jackets: the Eclipse Motorcycle Jacket and the Shelter Hoodie. The moto jacket has a high-quality Aniline leather shell with a box-quilted upper and a yarn-dyed cotton lining, all of which combine for a clean modern look. There is also SPIDI CE-certified protective padded armor along the elbows, shoulders and back which absorbs shock from any on-bike falls. Other features include a zip-fastening chest pocket, hand warmer pockets and zippered cuffs which can be adjusted for riding with gloves.
Dannenberg’s second look is not quite so primed for riding; it focuses on insulation and outdoor friendliness. The Shelter Hoodie was designed as a “backcountry counterpart” to a more city-oriented jacket silhouette. To contend with outdoor climates, the hoodie has been filled with 60 grams of specialty insulated fiber for optimal heat retention without the typical bulk. The jacket also features a quilted shell with microfiber ripstop fabric lining, a two-point adjustable hood and plenty of storage room via zippered pockets and interiors.
