If you didn’t catch Comedy Central’s Roast of Justin Bieber last night, you may want to find the highlights on YouTube. It was rather hilarious. But also at the end of the event, the young pop sensation used the opportunity to seemingly express that he is turning over a new leaf in attempts to mature. With that being said, USA Today sat down with Bieber, as the Canadian act revealed that due to his maturation process, he has scrapped what was intended to be his new album and is now working alongside Kanye West and the legendary Rick Rubin to retool an upcoming full-length.

“It’s changed everything. My whole direction has changed. What you are thinking about all the time is what you write, and now that I’m thinking about more positive things, it completely changes my music,” he said. “I had to re-do my whole [new] album. I lost hope for a while, I was in a dark place, but it’s about getting out of that rut. It’s about knowing there’s sunshine on the other side.”

JB also dove into how he has changed his life outside of the studio as well, removing certain friends that were not a positive influence on him, in addition to refraining from having a girlfriend to focus on his himself and his career. Read the full piece over at USA Today.
