As the social media and community manager of the UK’s biggest sneaker chain size?, it’s no surprise Luke Matthews has an impressive, 70-deep collection of sneakers. In this week’s Sneaker Rotation he presents six of his most favored pairs currently on rotation.
Our newest edition of Sneaker Rotation comes courtesy of Luke Matthews, social media and community manager at UK sneaker chain size?. As you would expect, working at size? involves getting firsthand access to some of the finest sneaker releases, which shows in Luke’s carefully curated collection. Reflecting his personal style, we have a selection of grey-scale sneakers including limited edition collaborations such as the adidas Originals x Opening Ceremony Stan Smith “Black Pony Hair” and KITH’s New Balance 999 “Steel Blue.”
We asked Luke what drew him to these styles in particular and why they’re in his Sneaker Rotation of the moment.
adidas Originals x Opening Ceremony Stan Smith “Black Pony Hair”
Off the back of Stan’s resurgence last year, many have tried to conquer the Stan Smith. For me, these have been one of the best executed – I was torn between choosing this or the Primeknit; they’re my two go-to Stans.
Common Projects Achilles Low
These are just essential. They can be dressed up or down and fit for any occasion. Very necessary.
New Balance 997 “Made in USA”
Less is more. The shape alone has a notable aura of originality about it; the toe box and side profile are reminiscent of many of its early predecessors – a trait not many, unfortunately, share anymore.
Nike x size? Air Max 93
One of the most underrated releases of the past few years; they perfectly balance form and functionality. The neoprene sock liner of the 93 adds extra height onto the silhouette, giving the shoe a different dimension to many of its contrasting Air Max counterparts.
KITH x New Balance 999 “Blue Steel”
Ronnie dropped these back in 2012 and they’ve been in my rotation ever since. Utilizing the tonal palette from the 1300CL, the shades just sit perfectly on the 999.
Nike Free Mercurial Superfly HTM
From growing up playing football, I’ve always kept an eye out for what’s next in the boot world. When I saw this hybrid I just had to get them. They are crazy comfortable, too.
