Question of the day: What do chairs and saddles have in common? The answer is quite a lot if you’re Overgaard & Dyrman. The Copenhagen-based contemporary design brand aims to weave the past and the present through fusing traditional craft techniques with today’s modern technology.

We were able to take a glimpse at the creation process of the company’s “Wire Dining Chair” in a short film made in collaboration with Surrender Productions. The chair makes up a small part of the larger Wire Collection, which was inspired by old-world saddle making techniques. Adding a modern edge to this inspiration is the use of metals — something the craftsmen manipulate with modern technology in the film. Take the time to really study the video; it captures the melding of two different ways of undertaking craftsmanship.
