Cycling brings normality to Jimmy Phillips: “It keeps me from all the day to day stresses in New York. It’s a good way to get out and clear your mind.” Australian-born Phillips is the founder of The Domestique, a guided tour company that caters to cycling enthusiasts looking for a premium ride experience throughout Manhattan and up to Bear Mountain.
Once a visitor and now a resident, Phillips understood early on the difficulty in finding high-end road bicycles to rent in Manhattan and found even less folks willing to guide him on a tour. “[New York] is such a great place to bike… and I could see a niche for interstate and overseas visitors,” tells Philipps. Within short time, Phillips launched The Domestique with a handful of partners to fill the gap in the market.
The Domestique team provides hotel stay as well as renting out complete cycling kits according to the clientele’s specific sizing. Also included in the package is a helmet, snacks, a high-spec BMC carbon road bike and anything else the client may need for a day on the road.
Phillips enjoys cycling in the city with Aether’s gear, and recently fell in love with the label’s First Light shell jacket. Also featured in the video above is the Empire Bicycle Jacket, a highly technical short shell piece that is helping redefine modern cycling commuter wear. As Phillips points out, “You want to be comfortable; you want something that’s versatile for the weather.” As we see in this film, Aether’s jacket offering covers all of his desires and concerns.
