Paris-born DJ and lifelong musician DJ Cam has returned to his roots with a mixtape that explores the French hip-hop scene. Originally a legendary trip-hop producer, DJ Cam grew up alongside “French Touch” contemporaries like Daft Punk, Air and Bob Sinclar, and this heady upbringing has remained a presence throughout his work. He’s a master of reinvention, having lent his hip-hop/jazz hybrid sound to remixes for everyone from Michael Jackson to Serge Gainsbourg, and he’s now on his third album release – an unofficial soundtrack to glorious monument of ’80s excess, Miami Vice.

Yet DJ Cam’s experimental tendencies never get in the way of a good beat. We’re ashamed to say our familiarity with French hip-hop doesn’t run deep enough to list all the acts included here, but that’s why we called on someone with the knowledge to school us on what’s up.
