Netflix have released the teaser trailer for Cary Fukunaga’s upcoming feature film, Beasts of No Nation. Set to release on October 16, the movie is a chilling adaptation of Uzodinma Iweala’s 2005 novel of the same name. The story follows a group of guerrilla fighters in West Africa who, under the orders of Idris Elba as their warlord, recruit a young boy to kill the militant who murdered the boy’s family.

The release marks the first original feature film from Netflix, alongside the release of Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, The Ridiculous Six and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend later in the year.

In addition to Netflix, Beasts of No Nation will also open in select theaters, making the movie, and Elba eligible award contenders in the run up to the Oscar buzz.

Watch the trailer above and stay tuned for updates on the movie’s theatrical release.
