On September 9 a fantastic new exhibition will be opening its doors at the Newcomb Art Museum in New Orleans. While the exhibition focuses on Brooklyn artist KAWS, he has decided to include works from his own collection of the artists Karl Wirsum and Tomoo Gokita. Overall the exhibition consists of 17 works by KAWS and 26 pieces of each Karl Wirsum and 9 pieces by Tomoo Gokita, which have little to do with each other, but seem to inspire the Brooklyn artist.

“I think of collecting like building a library I can access and reference 24/7. I collect firstly for personal daily enjoyment but I also collect to fully comprehend as well as support the world I work and live in. Ultimately for me, understanding art and artists leads you to other art and artists. It’s a never-ending conversation, and it’s exciting.”

At the entrance of the exhibition you will be greeted by none other than the massive 16-foot COMPANION (PASSING THROUGH) figure, originally created in 2010. See the process of building it up here below. The exhibition opens on September 9, along with an artist talk with KAWS, and runs until January 3, 2016.
