The monumental industrial space of Kraftwerk Berlin served as the backdrop for a special editorial between adidas Originals and a set of key Berlin-based influencers. Each sitting at the intersection of the German capital’s art and fashion scenes, visual artist Rein Vollenga joined fashion designer and model Patrick Mason, actress, model and PAWAKA eyewear’s founder and creative director Fa’ Empel, as well as the conceptual performance artist and dancer Kirikoo Des for a shoot inside the cavernous space to promote the latest drops in adidas’ Tubular collection.

Harsh angles, cold concrete and the minimalist environs of the former power plant juxtaposed against the softer, rounded Tubular silhouettes. Premium engineered footwear played in expansive, engineered space. A murdered-out triple black Tubular Runner with flecked laces stood up against the Tubular Runner Weave in red and the Tubular Knit in a soft grey colorway – both of which utilize adidas’ premium Primeknit material on the upper for a more breathable fit.

The Tubular collection takes inspiration from adidas Originals’ archives, principally the designs and ideas surrounding the 1993 Tubular runner, as well as building on the legacy and iconic designs of the adidas Forum. As such, the Runner Weave recreates the ’93 Tubular into a low-cut street-style sneaker, while the Tubular Knit steps into basketball-inspired territory, pairing nubuck and leather overlays and a semi-opaque heel counter with a high-top silhouette to create a statement piece of designer streetwear, rooted in sport but looking to the runway.
