It’s an interesting pairing between a footwear leader and arguably the best name in mountaineering: Cole Haan and Mountain Hardwear are partnering on a collaborative collection under the ZERØGRAND outerwear name. The assortment will feature garments and technology once exclusive to the mountainside, now refreshed for city streets and the most demanding of urban conditions.

For Mountain Hardwear, this is an opportunity to take its tech to the streets in a way that focuses on the everyday needs of denizens, and uses materials and technology once reserved for an outdoor experience. A similar introduction exists for Cole Haan whose focus has always been on providing men and women with comfortable fashion footwear and accessories. These items are simply now made more attractive to the traditional Mountain Hardwear shopper. The ZERØGRAND collection opens various doors and eyeballs to consumers who demand more from what they wear.

As a shopper of both labels, I’m looking to the  ZERØGRAND collection to absolutely give me back the protection necessary to handle another New York City winter, and the offering certainly does that. The trenchcoat, a perennial favorite in my wardrobe, is given the Mountain Hardwear treatment with a quilted liner that avoids adding bulk to the streamlined cut of the trench form. The oversized hood is also great for protecting the wearer from everyday cold and rain.  The commuter jacket is another everyday item that can be layered or worn solo, and is representative of a garment that leans heavily on the DNA of the Mountain Hardwear brand.

But this collection is not simply outerwear; accessories play a major role in the ZERØGRAND outerwear assortment. Backpacks specifically designed for this collection are impressive, and are finalized with a clean finish and internal compartments that make day-to-day activities a breeze. Partnerships with umbrella maker BLUNT Umbrella and Fischer Space pen, provide goods that are again worthy of use on the mountain and on the streets.

The ZERØGRAND outerwear collection from Cole Haan and Mountain Hardwear shows that there is synergy between one’s needs on the mountain and in the metropolis.

The collection debuts today and will be available in-store and at Cole Haan online today.
