Virginia Beach emcee, Play Cloths owner and frequent adidas collaborator Pusha T, was appointed president of Kanye’s Def Jam label imprint, G.O.O.D. Music. After four months in the works, Pusha will be accompanied by his longtime manager Steven Victor, who will be joining as the label’s head of A&R.
Since its inception in 2011, G.O.O.D. Music has amassed scores of certified gold, platinum, and multi-platinum selling albums and singles, and is home to a sizable roster of noteworthy talent such as Big Sean, Q-Tip, Teyana Taylor, Kacy Hill and Pusha himself.
In an interview with Billboard, Pusha said Kanye offered him the position with the intent of bringing a “very manicured” approach to the label. “I always look at it as an opportunity to help the team and I think that artistically, me and Kanye have the same vision,” he said. “I’m not out here shooting in the dark, doing any and every thing.”
““I think we’ll be getting the best out of him, executive producing projects that come from the label from here on out because he gets to really hone in as a producer. I’ll take care of all the logistics, the rallying of the troops, and so on and so forth. He don’t gotta be producer, A&R, rapper and everything.””
Pusha and Kanye have a history of successful partnerships. In 2010, the rapper was featured on Kanye’s platinum-selling single “Runaway” from his acclaimed My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy LP. Two years later, Pusha T took the lead on a number of tracks from Kanye West’s Cruel Summer compilation, most notably the #1 triple-platinum track “Mercy,” along with with Big Sean and 2 Chainz.
