We hit up London with Boiler Room’s Skinny Macho (f.k.a. Blackfoot Phoenix) in our latest look at Levi’s Commuter collection. Born and raised in South London, Skinny works as a programmer for the fabled electronic music channel, while DJing and modeling across the capital under a number of guises in his spare time.

Equipped with a white Leader 735 fixie, we kitted Skinny out in the iconic denim brand’s wares including a pair of Commuter 511 trousers in indigo, Levi’s Pocket Tee, brushed chambray Workshirt and the collection’s graphite Windbreaker, as he took us through city’s rain-splattered streets.

Designed by urban riders, for riders, the Levi’s Commuter collection goes in for practicality as well as style, making use of time-honored fabrics used by cycling professionals, while incorporating Levi’s own signature materials too. Fabrics are responsive and stretch, they’re water-repellant and durable, and have all been cut for a contemporary silhouette whether you’re on or off the bike.

The 511s, for instance, come in far more of a sleeker cut than your average pair of jeans. Tapered to the ankle and incorporating reflective elements (the bootcut look was never meant for cycling), the rear has also been fitted with a handy u-lock holder. Meanwhile, Levi’s Pocket Tee is crafted from a merino wool blend – a classic fabric used in cycling due to its natural thermoregulating and anti-bacterial properties. It also features a dropped back hem for coverage while you’re riding. This has been replicated on Levi’s thermoregulating Workshirt as well, which also gets reinforced shoulder pads and an inset stretch panel running down the back for mobility.

Heading outside, we gave Skinny the collection’s graphite Windbreaker as the day darkened, made from breathable, water-repellant fabric with craftily placed 3M reflective elements and an air vent cut into the rear to keep you dry – both from rain and your body’s sweat.

Watch Skinny as he shares his outlook and his creative ethos in our exclusive film, above, before taking a closer look at Levi’s Commuter collection.
