A PUMA icon, the German giant’s R698 is a true athletic sneaker that’s been supporting the running crowd since 1991. And now as the ’90s throwback trend continues, PUMA release a streetstyle-ready version which we photographed for Finish Line, as part of their ongoing collaboration with the brand, just outside Berlin.
The R698 sees a solid silhouette composed of PUMA’s energy-returning Trinomic midsole, featuring rubber cells that collapse and rebound to lessen shock impact, dappled with ‘splatter’ detailing for extra style points. The rubber outsole provides extra grip and stability, meaning the overall ride runs clean.
Meanwhile for the upper, the premium knit fabric gives a houndstooth effect to the overall look, while PUMA’s Formstrip on the medial and lateral flanks seems slightly abstracted and block-like because of it. But this is no bad thing. To show your loyalty, the leaping cat features solidly on the heel while the PUMA No.1 Logo is placed proudly on the tongue.
PUMA’s R698 is the perfect example of how ‘The Edge of Sport & Style’ collide at PUMA’s new shops at select Finish Line locations. Check out our exclusive shoot above, before checking the creps out at select PUMA Shops at Finish Line or their online store.
