Fashion and space exploration collide in a monumental way as Y-3 has joined with Virgin Galactic to develop the first-ever apparel collection for space. Recently revealed at Spaceport America in New Mexico, the joint effort features a prototype flight-suit and boot for Virgin’s astronaut pilots.

The flight-suit is designed to fully support a pilot’s natural seating position, with fit, comfort and performance all being at the forefront. The suit, which is constructed from Nomex Meta Aramid materials through a 3D-engineered pattern, has been tested numerous times by the Virgin Galactic pilot corps.

The accompanying flight-boot features leather and Nomex materials coming together with a special TRAXION outsole that provides unmatched grip and an adiPRENE heel insert that accounts for enhanced comfort and shock absorption.

In addition to the flight-suit and flight-boot prototypes, Y-3 has also designed a bespoke limited edition jacket in partnership with Virgin Galactic. The jackets have been given to the astronauts who will be passengers of the first-ever Virgin Galactic commercial space flights.
