Known for his strong political views and statements, Chinese artist Ai Weiwei’s latest art project is a commentary and critic on Europe’s response to its refugee crisis. The artist recently setup a studio on the Greek island of Lesbos, which is the main entry point for tens of thousands of refugees who make the dangerous sea crossing from Turkey. He is working on several projects around the topic of the refugee crisis, and one of them has just gone live in Berlin, Germany. In Lesbos Ai Weiwei collected 14,000 life jackets of the people that made the dangerous crossing. More than 3,700 refugees lost their lives trying to make their way to Greece last year alone. Ai Weiwei now used the 14,000 life vests to wrap the pillars of the Berlin concert hall (Konzerthause Berlin) with them.
