Italian denim brand Replay comes through with an updated version of a nearly never-before-seen sneaker: the "Scatto."
Discovered in the archives of an artisanal workshop specialized in the crafting of custom-made cleats, this hand-tooled professional sport sneaker from the early 1970s represents the know-how of a bygone era. Preserving the original shape of the Scatto, Replay reworked the silhouette and gave it a wide range of colors and materials.
Included in the updated offerings are "Suede," "Full Leather," "Avant-Garde" and "Lycra 3D" versions.
The former, as the name suggests, makes heavy use of butter-soft suede and comes in dark blue, brown and grey shades. Each colorway is subtly offset by rich gold logo accents on the tongue and heel collar, while dynamic tonal topstitching and a perforated motif on the upper complete the design.
"Full Leather," meanwhile, comes in everything from monochromatic to fluorescent colorways. Again we see the use of contrasting logos, topstitching and perforated motifs.
"Avant-Garde" is all about contrasts and therefore makes heavy use of clashing colorways and materials. Light and dark, iridescent and metallic effects mix edgily with matte tones for an offering that's more radical than the rest.
Last but certainly not least, the "Lycra 3D" sneakers make the most of color-blocking and material mashing to take the crown of the most fashion forward. Sharp chromatic and textural contrasts are juxtaposed against soft leather uppers and chunky lycra geo patterns. Colors, too, come on strong: white clashes first with grey, then with neon green. Finally, a powerful tonal black finishes off the series.
The entire collection is available now at Replay retailers and ReplayJeans.com.
