Below you’ll find some of the best collections to land in our inbox this month, from low-key Cali casualwear to innovative Parisian tailoring. Get to know these brands before they’re massive.
Clément Taverniti is a busy man – a former designer at Dries Van Noten and Maison Kitsuné launched upcoming Parisian streetwear label Still Good, and now unveils his new foray into menswear, dubbed MATIÈRES PARIS. Launching in FW16, the brand adds modern innovative twists to wardrobe classics, with rare fabrics and unorthodox detailing used throughout.
Elongated topcoats are produced with shaggy fabrics, while blazers are given bomber-style sleeve pockets and blousons feature clip fastenings across the chest. One of the brand’s overcoats, which sports an ancestral tapestry-like panel on the back, was even worn by Kanye West in a recent studio session.
Antwerp label Arte continues its hometown’s illustrious fashion heritage (Dries Van Noten, Kris Van Assche, Raf Simons and Martin Margiela have all called the Belgian city home at some point) and headed to the Greek island of Sarakinos to shoot its goods against some spectacular panoramic backdrops.
Highlights of the brand’s warm-weather offerings include lightweight coaches jackets, linen shirting and velvet trucker jackets and hoodies, all of which are executed in a sparse, contemporary palette of navy and off-white.
Established by three teens from New Orleans, k2o unveils a set of whacky post-internet streetwear adorned with all sorts of wild graphics and nostalgic motifs. Lo-fi graphics and heavy-duty straps are pasted over tons of the brand’s pieces, which have been modeled by Hood By Air muse and runway star Hirakish.
Not one for the faint of heart, the brand’s “BETA 002” collection has launched exclusively via the k2o online store, with a dedicated 8-bit hockey game to go with it.
Tokyo label JieDa plays with proportions with its Fall/Winter 2016 collection. Sweaters and topcoats are oversized to balloon-like proportions, while billowing trousers and super-slim denim add dimensions to the bottom half, too. Punky styling via stone-washed denim, shoestring belts and combat belts add some gritty edge – yet another win for Tokyo’s thriving fashion scene.
LA label The Squad drops an FW16 collection of low-key clothing that takes inspiration from Southern California’s stunning scenery. The collection’s palette is dominated by earthy, neutral tones, while garments are cut extra long and slouchy, and seams are left raw and unfinished. Textured slub cotton and linen blends keep things feeling plush, and the brand’s men’s and women’s gear both share the same low-key, pared-back aesthetic.
Hailing from Cleveland, OH, but with a distinctly Scandinavian-tinged aesthetic, Aaron Jacobson’s FAAN label drops a FW16 line of genderless clothing that cites its founder’s background in architecture as a key influence.
That means form and structure are emphasized instead of gender-specific cuts, with a pared-back palette of white, slate grey and copper furthering the minimalist vibes. Clearly FAAN is a brand for those erring on the more subtle end of the sartorial spectrum.
